Lido plans over a pint

Future users of Peckham Lido are being invited by designers  to have their say on what it could look like  over a pint at  the White Horse Pub on January 23, writes Kirsty Purnell…

The community consultation event is being run by Lido project co-founders and Peckham residents, Ben Lloyd and James Glynn.

Studio Octopi, project architects and founding partners with Ben and James, are keen to get local input on the design “which is still in flux.”

“We’d love people to just pop in for a pint and a chat. Everyone’s welcome,” said Ben. “We can still use the feedback to some extent and feed into the final design.”

The crowdfunding campaign to re-open the outdoor pool attracted huge support when it launched last May, pulling in £63,106 from a staggering 1085 backers.

It received high profile support from singer Katy B, actor James Norton and London mayor Sadiq Khan. Southwark Council also threw their weight behind the appeal, pledging £10,000.

A splash mob party held on July 10 to raise cash for the Peckham Lido

“It’d be lovely to meet some of the people on the night who supported us during the campaign,” said Ben.

The money raised is being used to cover initial project costs, including consultations, site surveys and a business plan.

It is estimated that the lido will cost £5-6 million and the project founders hope to attract investment from large funders. If things go well, the lido could be completed in four years.

The consultation evening will start from 7pm. There is also an online consultation. Details can be found on the Peckham Lido Facebook page
