Old Kent Road closed during rush hour after motorbike smash

The Old Kent Road was closed for more than three hours after a motorcycle was “in collision with a traffic island”.

The major road was closed during the morning rush hour after a female motorcyclist, aged in her 30s, was involved in the collision at about 6am today, Tuesday.

The woman was taken to a south London hospital but police say her injuries are not life-threatening.

The road was reopened by about 10am and no arrests were made.

A police spokesperson said: “Police were called at 6.06am on January 23 to reports of a road traffic collision in Old Kent Road, SE15.

“Officers and the London Ambulance Service attended and found a motorcycle in collision with a traffic island.

“No arrests have been made.”

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 6am today to Old Kent Road, Southwark, to reports of someone coming off of their motorbike.

“We sent an ambulance crew and a single responder in a car to the scene.

“We treated a woman at the scene and took her to hospital as a priority.”
