Female cyclist injured in Peckham collision has injuries that ‘may be life-changing’

A female cyclist has been injured in a ‘serious road traffic collision’ in Peckham today as police warn drivers to avoid Peckham High Street while diversions are in place.

The News has received multiple reports that a truck hit a woman cycling an Ofo dockless bicycle on Peckham High Street.

Mary Edouard, from Queen’s Road, Peckham, told the News she saw the woman lying on the ground outside the Citizens Advice Bureau at around 4.20pm: “I was walking past the bus station going towards the Citizens Advice Bureau when I saw a whole load of police cars.

“I stopped and heard somebody screaming, she seemed to be a middle aged woman lying on the floor and a truck was just past her, though I don’t know whether it was that vehicle that hit her.

“It almost looked as if she had fallen off the curb.

“She was alive, but definitely injured.

“The ambulance was there, and a police helicopter was circling overhead.”

TfL says the A202 is closed westbound at Peckham bus station and eastbound at Lyndhurst Way.

Southwark police tweeted the road was closed due to a ‘serious road traffic accident’ and told drivers to avoid the area.

A Met spokesperson confirmed officers were called at 3.pm on Wednesday, 22 August to Peckham High Street reports of a road traffic collision, and attended the scene with the London Ambulance Service.

“A female (no further details) is reported to have been in a collision with a lorry.

“She has been taken to a south London hospital; her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening but may be life-changing.”

There have been no arrests and road closures are in place, with motorists advised to avoid the area.
