Appeal after woman dies in four-vehicle hit and run

A woman has died after being hit by a lorry and then run over by three other vehicles while using a pedestrian crossing.

The 29-year-old, from Wandsworth, was hit by an HGV as she crossed Norwood Road, in Tulse Hill, using a pedestrian crossing at about 6.48am on Monday, December 11. The driver of the HGV failed to stop at the scene.

Detectives believe the woman was shockingly struck a further three times by a second lorry and two cars – none of which stopped at the scene.

The woman was sadly pronounced dead at 7.21am after being treated at the scene by London Ambulance Service.

Police said the woman’s family had been informed – but she had not been identified at the time the News went to press as extended family members were yet to be told.

A post-mortem examination was set to take on Tuesday, December 12, at Greenwich mortuary.

Acting Detective Sergeant Alastair Middleton urged the drivers of the four vehicles to come forward to police. “We want to hear from anyone who travelled from the south circular junctions of Norwood Road going towards the junction of Brixton Hill between the hours of 6.30am and 7am on the day of the collision,” he said.

“We are particularly interested in any dash cam footage that may have captured some of the incident before or after the collision.

We are also appealing for anyone who was passing and witnessed the collision and the moments afterwards to contact us immediately.

Enquiries are continuing to trace all the vehicles involved.  A number of actions, including the recovery of local CCTV footage, are in hand. I would urge the drivers of all four vehicles to come forward .”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit at Merton on 020 8543 5157 or via @MetCC or  Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
