LeSoCo to sell Camberwell campus

Lewisham and Southwark College (Lesoco) has confirmed that it will sell off its Camberwell campus, after months of speculation.

Student, parents and staff protested in May after the college’s management announced the Southampton Way site’s future was in the balance. They argued that there were alternate ways to make cuts or raise money, such as by better exploiting the empty nursery building.

However, new principal and CEO Carole Kitching confirmed on Tuesday that the site would definitely be sold to “ensure a solid future” for the college.

She said: “We recognise how important adult provision courses are, and therefore the college will still be delivering them, just in alternative premises within the same communities.

“I believe it’s essential that the college should be spending money on teaching, not on maintaining buildings. Ensuring students’ success has always and will remain our core focus. The sale of our Camberwell campus will ensure a solid future for our current students, and generations to come.”

No details were given regarding the location of the new facilities or the date of the move.
