Helpers needed for Goose Green Primary School’s second ‘Big Dig’ day

Goose Green Primary is hoping to cut playground air pollution even further with its second ever Big Dig community gardening day, writes Josh Mellor…

The East Dulwich school is inviting parents, children and community members to come and help install pollution-preventing plants at the school on May 11, including two trees and eight metres of green smog shields at the school’s entrance.

Headteacher Simon Wattam said: “Last year we were thrilled by the enthusiasm shown by the children and parents of Goose Green, local residents, and businesses during the Big Dig – it shows what can be achieved when everyone pulls together.

“At the end of the Big Dig, lots of people asked whether it could be made an annual event – well here we go again!”

Air pollution was halved in parts of the playground thanks to last year’s efforts.

Jobs ranging from lifting, shifting and pruning to providing tea and cake mean those with or without green fingers are just as welcome.

The second annual “Big Dig” community planting day will be on 11th May 2019 from 10:30am to 3pm.
