Southwark leisure centres are ‘Fit for Business’

Six leisure centres in Southwark have been awarded ‘Fit for Business’ accreditation for their excellent Covid-19 practices, writes Simon Throssell…

The ‘Fit for Business’ certificate recognises the high-quality work the centres have done to ensure Covid-19 risk management and prevention.

The six centres, run by Everyone Active on behalf of Southwark Council, are the first local authority-owned places to achieve the certificate.

They are Camberwell Leisure Centre (LC), Dulwich LC, Peckham Pulse LC, Surrey Docks Fitness and Water Sports Centre, Seven Islands LC and The Castle Centre.

It has been a challenging year for the leisure industry as indoor centres have been forced to stay closed due to coronavirus restrictions.

Mark Basker, Everyone Active’s Regional Contract Manager, said: “We’re delighted to receive the Fit for Business accreditation at our leisure centres in the borough.

“This achievement is thanks to the hard work and dedication from our brilliant colleagues at each centre and the continued support we’ve received from our local authority partners.

He added: “We have been operating the leisure centres in Southwark since 2016 and we’re proud to be in a position where we can support the health and wellbeing of the local community.

“We’re continuing to keep up-to-date on the latest Government guidelines and we are looking forward to welcoming our members back once we’re safe to reopen.”
