Free showing of Close Encounters of the Third Kind in Peckham

A free screening of Stephen Speilberg’s Close Encounters of the Third Kind will be held in Peckham’s Copleston Centre this Thursday.

The 1977 American science fiction thriller stars Richard Dreyfuss, Melinda Dillon, Teri Garr, Bon Balaban, Cary Guffey and Francois Truffaut and tells the story of Roy Neary, a blue-collar worker in Indiana whose life changes after his encounter with a UFO.

The special screening is part of a series of events during the Copleston Centre’s 40th anniversary, and coincides with the Peckham and Nunhead free film festival.

Vicar Rev. Edward Collier said: “We are delighted the Peckham and Nunhead Film Festival chose to show this film at our fantastic Centre because it is a great film and perfect for all of the family.

“We have planned this unique event because we wanted to make something very special and fun that families could attend for free.

“This event is part of the Copleston Centre’s 40th year anniversary year, celebrating 40 years at the heart of the local community, serving local needs and providing a great local venue.

“Profit from the bar will go towards the plans to repair the Copleston roof – so we all hope for a full house.”

Local craft beers and mead will be supplied by Horns, Orbit and Gosnells, with snacks also available.

Doors will open at 7pm and the screening will begin at 8pm.

Entry is free.
