The Drag Queen Story Time comes to Peckham nursery

Little ones at a nursery in Peckham were given a lesson in tolerance towards people of alternative gender identities, in a story-time session by drag queens.

The Drag Queen Story Time (DQST) project visited Bird in Bush Community Nursery on Tuesday, where kids were treated to story-time, a Halloween drag disco, face painting.

The DQST said it aims to challenge negative views at a young age – providing an alternative view of tolerance and kindness; all within an educational environment and in a very busy diverse city.

June O’Sullivan, CEO of London Early Years, which runs the Peckham nursery, said: “All of our nurseries are geared to giving children the best and equal start in life no matter what their background is.

“DQST is all about opening our doors so that every single member of our community is included and we fully embrace this. By providing spaces in which children are able to see people who defy rigid gender restrictions, it allows them to imagine the world in which people can present as they wish.”
