Choir that includes partially deaf singers will be a ‘fantastic show’

With less than two weeks to go until the spectacular Weighting circus show comes to Dulwich Park, things are rising to a crescendo for choir leader Colin Rea.

“Choir rehearsals are well under way and we can’t wait to premier the show on May 9,” he told the News.

“We’ve got a fantastic show planned and an excellent group of singers.” The choir members, like the circus performers, are completely integrated and reflect the show’s aim to ‘celebrate every body, disabled or not.’ Some partially-deaf singers will take part using both their voice and sign language, while a huge numbers of local residents and members of Southwark community choirs join in too.

“It is all-inclusive and absolutely everyone can get involved,” said Colin. “We have a real mixture of experience. Some of our singers are very, very good and others have only ever sung in the shower. There is a real mixture.

“Singing is a great leveller. We have people taking part from all walks of life and all backgrounds. The camaraderie is excellent and you can see the excitement among the singers at what we are putting together. This isn’t some amateur production, we sound very good and the quality is very high.”

Organisers are appealing for volunteers to help out over the two days – if you are interested in being a part of the event please contact The shows will take place in Dulwich Park at 2pm and 7pm on May 9 and at 2pm on May 10.
