Applications open for FREE summer school

A free summer scheme for primary leavers getting ready to go to secondary school is now open for applications.

The project aims to help year six pupils get ready to join secondary school by using music, dance, drama and art to help them learn new skills, take risks, make friends and cope with change.

The Lottery Funded project has 100 places on offer at Rye Oak Primary School this year, from July 29 to August 9.

Throughout the past year, other schools in Southwark to have taken part include Michael Faraday, Ivydale, Oliver Goldsmith and Bessemer Grange Primaries.

Put on by Little Fish Theatre, based in Greenwich, past schemes have been a bit hit with the kids taking part, with pupils saying: ‘It is fun and you get to meet a lot of people and you get to make new friends’, ‘I would recommend the Summer Programme to other young people because fun and exciting’, and ‘you can meet new people and you get to express yourself. You can try new things’.
