Teenager arrested in relation to high-speed chase between moped riders and cops

A moped driver was arrested on Monday in relation to a high-speed chase through Burgess Park.

Police have confirmed that on Monday at about 3pm, officers patrolling Southwark saw a number of people on mopeds acting in an anti-social manner in the area of Albany Road, SE17.

The officers signalled for the riders to stop but they failed to do so. A police helicopter tracked one moped as it was ridden through Burgess Park before coming to a stop on Penrose Street.

A 16-year-old boy was arrested that day on suspicion of failing to stop for police, assault, theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous driving, driving without a licence and driving without insurance.

The young male was then bailed to a date in mid-November.

Inspector Kelvin Jackson-Robbins, from Southwark Borough, said: “This was a great example of teamwork between different parts of the Met.

“Anti-social moped use and moped-enabled criminality are a real blight for the residents of Southwark, and I am particularly proud of the tenacity and skill shown by my officers in communicating with NPAS [National Police Air Service] to safely locate and arrest one of the protagonists.”
