Update at 11:31am
Seven people have been confirmed dead, with dozens taken to five London hospitals, after a night of carnage on the streets of Borough and London Bridge, which culminated in armed police shooting three terrorists dead.
After a white B&Q/Hertz van was used to mow down pedestrians outside the Barrowboy and Banker at around 10:15pm last night, three men were seen running from the van towards the market. As shocked onlookers tried to tend to the injured on the bridge and armed police swooped on the scene, the three assailants, reportedly wearing hoax bomb vests, began striking indiscriminately at people in pubs and on the streets in the area. All three were shot dead by armed police units, with a series of controlled explosions taking place during the night.
A stabbing at Vauxhall at around the same time has been confirmed as unrelated.
General election campaigning has been suspended.
Guy’s & St Thomas are treating at least fourteen of the wounded.
A police operation is taking place in Barking, with unconfirmed reports that it is linked to last night’s atrocities.
Police have opened a casualty bureau. Telephone numbers are 0800 096 1233 and 020 7158 0197.
