Robbers beat woman, 63, with statue in her own home

Police are appealing for witnesses after two men forced themselves into a ‘vulnerable’ woman’s house, stole from her bag and hit her multiple times over the head with a bronze statue on Valentine’s Day.

One of the men had knocked on the 63-year-old’s door and said that he had crashed into her car.

When she opened the door to check, the men burst into her house and shouted: “Where is your safe?”

After the woman said she did not have a safe, one of the men picked up a bronze statue and hit the victim twice on the head.

The pair then attempted to drag her upstairs before she escaped their grasp.

She was hit again with the statue before the men left, taking two purses with them.

Police were called by the victim’s sister, who had been talking with her on the phone and had heard the whole ordeal.

Officers arrived to find the woman with a cut to her head, her left eye and bruising on her left shin. She was taken to a south London hospital and later discharged.

Detective Constable Carri Blackman, from Southwark CID, said: “The victim in this case is an extremely vulnerable lady.

“This has understandably left her extremely shaken up and we’re determined to try and identify who is responsible.

She added:?“I’d urge anyone who might have seen or heard anything unusual or suspicious in the area to get in touch with us, however insignificant you think the information may be – it could help us to solve this case.”

Both men are described as black, aged eighteen to 22 and wearing dark hooded tops.

Anyone with information should contact Southwark CID on 0207 232 6142 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 quoting reference 3004593/15.
