Rapist who attacked two women in Borough has ‘lenient’ sentence increased

A rapist who violently attacked two women in Borough within hours of each other has had his sentence increased because it was too lenient.

Wilfred Marodza, 28, was initially jailed for a total of fourteen years in January following his attacks in July last year.

After an appeal hearing, Marodza must serve sixteen years behind bars, with an extended five-year license.

The court had heard that the trainee lawyer was drinking with friends after work on July 19 in London Bridge, but was thrown out of the bar for harassing women.

He began to follow one of his victims on Great Dover Street, who was on her way home, and grabbed her from behind by the neck.

Marodza, who confessed to his crimes, marched her to Dickens Fields and forced her to strip naked before raping her multiple times.

The vile predator threatened to kill her, a court heard, saying: “I’m going to have to bury you now.”

The victim managed to escape and run, but was chased by Marodza. She was taken to a police station by a passing motorist who stopped and challenged her attacker.

Just one hour later, Marodza attacked again, this time targeting a 25-year-old partially sighted woman who was waiting for a bus on Borough High Street.

He began talking to her and offered her an escort to a cab office. But as they were walking, Marodza dragged her into a side street.

The victim managed to escape after screaming.

Marodza, from Eastbourne, Sussex, was arrested the same day after cops found his work ID at the bar he had been drinking in.

The Solicitor General, Michael Ellis MP, who referred the sentencing to the Court of Appeal said: “Marodza subjected his victims to depraved, callous attacks, resulting in serious emotional trauma.

“I am pleased the Court of Appeal agreed he should serve a longer sentence, and hope the increase brings some comfort to the victims.”

  1. Those poor victims must have been terrified. Rapes such as these must deserve automatic 25 year sentences. I dont know what statute books lay down for Rapes but there not enough. Perhaps if more men were raped the sentence would be commensurate with the offence.
