Potters Fields: man bottled in yet another weekend of violence in popular Tower Bridge park

A man was bottled on Saturday night, in yet another evening of violence and disorder in Potters Fields Park near Tower Bridge.

Police were called to reports of a man being attacked with a bottle in the early hours of Sunday morning, May 16. They found him with cuts to his ear and head.

The man was taken to the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel but police do not consider his injuries life-threatening or life-changing.

Officers arrested another man, aged 24, in connection with the attack. The investigation continues.

This fresh bout of violence comes after about six weekends of anti-social behaviour on Potters Fields Park, after lockdown started to lift in April. A man was stabbed by City Hall and several other brawls have broken out in the local area.

Officers believe many of the people at the park have been coming from Essex for gatherings organised on Snapchat, the social network where messages disappear after a few seconds or minutes.

Police have stationed up to 40 officers in and near the park on recent weekends in a bid to stop the violence and have put wide dispersal orders in place in order to break up crowds. There was even a tentative plan to fence off parts of the park at night, although the organisation that runs Potters Fields appears to have shelved this.
