Police appeal after woman forced out of car in Bermondsey and assaulted by driver

A woman in her 30s was forced out of a car in Bermondsey and assaulted by the driver before he drove off, police say.

Between 6pm and 7pm on Saturday, February 4, a woman in her 30s was forced out of a black Porsche Cayenne car which had stopped at an unknown location in Bermondsey.

The driver – a man, who was known to the victim – also got out of the car. He kicked the woman in the face and elsewhere on her body several times before driving off.

The victim reported that a passer-by came to her aid and called a taxi which took her to her home in Streatham.

The assault only came to the attention of police in the early hours of Sunday, February 5, after an ambulance was called to the woman’s address in Streatham.

The victim initially refused treatment but police were alerted and attended the address at around 8am.

A further ambulance was called and the woman was taken to hospital for treatment of injuries to her head, face, shoulders, arms, legs and her right hand. She was discharged later that day.

Detectives from the Lambeth Community Safety Unit are investigating and continue to work to identify the specific location where the assault took place.

They are keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the assault in Bermondsey or who has information that may assist the investigation.

In particular officers wish to trace the taxi or minicab driver who took the injured woman from a location in Bermondsey to the address in Streatham on Saturday evening.

A man was arrested on Sunday, February 5, and subsequently charged with assault ABH. This man is known to the victim.

Anyone with information is asked to call Lambeth Community Safety Unit on 020 8649 2191 or contact the police non-emergency line on 101. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
