Murder suspect in fatal stabbing of Ernest Kalawa appears at Old Bailey

A 21-year-old man appeared at the Old Bailey on Monday charged with the murder of Ernest Kalawa.

Mr Kalawa, 24, died in Haymerle Road, close to his home, on December 30.

Klark Mangal of Nazareth Gardens will next appear in court to submit a plea on April 10. A provisional trial date is also set for July 3.

Paramedics were called at 5.30pm and pronounced Mr Kalawa dead at the scene, with knife wounds to his head, legs and chest.

Two other suspects were also arrested following the attack. A 34-year-old man was arrested on January 11 and was bailed to return to a police station at a later date while enquiries continue. A 23-year-old man was arrested on December 31, and is due to return from bail for further questioning in April.

Detectives from the Homicide and Major Crime Command are continuing to investigate.
