Man charged with murder of Walworth man found in Penrose Street

Detectives investigating the murder of Reginald Ofei-Berko in Walworth have charged a man in connection with their investigation.

Leon Dixon, 36, of Brighton Road, Crawley, West Sussex, was arrested on Friday, September 2 and charged the following day with Reginald’s murder.

Dixon will appear today in Camberwell Green Magistrates’ Court.

Reginald was found in Penrose Street, Walworth on August 25 shortly after 3.05pm. He died later that day in King’s College Hospital.

Reginald’s grandmother – his next of kin – was said to be “distraught” and desperate to find out what happened to him.

Detective Chief Inspector Chris Jones told the News: “[Reginald] could have been sleeping rough in the days before the attack, as they were unable to ascertain where he had been staying.”

Reginald was said to be a local man, who frequented the Penrose Street area. “He would have been well known in the area,” DCI Jones said.

The photo of Reginald above was supplied by a Walworth Road pawnbrokers, which Reginald had visited earlier on the day he died.
