Lido’s 80th anniversary celebrations marred by two nights of vandalism

Brockwell Lido was targeted by vandals two nights in a row, just after celebrating its 80th anniversary.

Brockwell Lido was closed on Sunday and Monday mornings, after it was trashed by vandals overnight on both occasions.

Paving slabs were ripped up and lifeguard seats were tossed into the pool after the facility’s safety alarms were damaged.

“Once again, due to overnight vandalism, the pool is closed,” Brockwell Lido said in a tweet on Monday morning.

“Pool alarms have again been damaged. Engineers have been called to support.

“We apologise for the inconvenience caused. We will update as soon as possible.”

The pool was reopened to the public and business resumed as normal on Sunday afternoon, but was then forced to close again – reopening at 2.30pm on Monday.
