Lewisham man Mohammed Ali appears in court accused of GBH in connection with Rye Lane stabbing

A man called Mohammed Ali from Lewisham has appeared in magistrates’ court charged with GBH and possession of an offensive weapon after a Peckham Rye Lane trader was stabbed.

The Peckham trader was recovering in a major trauma unit on September 22 after allegedly being attacked by Ali for scraping his car.

Police confirmed they were called to Rye Lane to reports of a stabbing at 09:15am.

Ali, 22, was arrested at the scene – close to Sports Direct – on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm to the victim, who police said was in his thirties.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 9:48am to reports of a stabbing at Rye Lane. We sent an ambulance crew to the scene.

“We treated a man at the scene for a head and neck injury and took him as a priority to a major trauma centre in south east London.”

Self-employed Ali, of Elsiemaud Road, Ladywell, was accused with counts of causing GBH, of causing actual bodily harm, of causing criminal damage, of possession of an offensive weapon and for possession of cannabis and appeared in court today.

He was remanded in custody to appear at Inner London Crown Court on October 21.
