Dulwich man sentenced after racially abusing coppers and trying to bite one of them

A Dulwich man has admitted to racially abusing three police officers, and trying to bite one of them.

Gerald Wilson, of Court Lane, pleaded guilty at Croydon Magistrates Court on Thursday to three counts of racially aggravated abuse, and one count of assault on an emergency worker.

The court heard how on Tuesday Wilson had racially abused officers in a police van while being taken to a police station – calling one officer a “white c***,” another a “p*** c**t” and a third a “black c***.”

The 57-year-also pleaded guilty to assaulting an officer.

In  mitigation, counsel for Wilson said: “You have heard the language that was used. He accepts that it’s not language anyone should hear.

“He now accepts that in the frame of mind he was in, it was a foolish thing to do, and he again offers his apologies.”

Sentencing, District Judge Hina Rai said: “You have pleaded guilty to this matter today and I’m going to deal with this by way of financial penalty.”

Wilson was handed fines and charges totalling more than £400.

“It is your responsibility to pay, otherwise the order means bailiffs can attend your address to take goods to that value,” Judge Rai added.
