Pedestrian killed in collision on major Peckham road

A pedestrian has been killed in a collision on a major Peckham road this morning.

Police were called to the scene shortly before 6.30am to the collision on Kelly Avenue, at the junction with Peckham Road.

A male pedestrian, about whom police could give no further details, had been in a collision with a VW Golf. He was pronounced dead at the scene twenty minutes later.

Police arrested a man at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failing a roadside drug test.

He was taken to a south London police station, where he still remains. Officers are also trying to track down the victim’s next-of-kin.

Road closures and cordons are in place, and the authorities advise motorists to avoid the area and find alternative routes where possible.

Anyone who witnessed this incident or has dash cam footage of the collision is asked to call 101 quoting Cad 1080/30Jan or Tweet @MetCC.

The latest death comes following a fatal collision on Peckham High Street earlier this month. The victim of that collision has been named locally as Jason Bent.

This article has been updated as police now believe the victim was a pedestrian.
