Update: Police deem incident ‘non-suspicious’ after sealing off Surrey Quays shopping centre car park

Police sealed off Surrey Quays shopping centre car park yesterday morning – because of a ‘suspicious package.’

Officers rushed to the car park, outside of the Tesco Extra store, after the package was reported by concerned members of the public at around 11:18am.

The London Ambulance Service and the Fire Brigade also attended the scene.

A Met Police spokesperson said: “Police were called to reports of a suspicious package at Surrey Quays Shopping Centre car park at approximately 11:18hrs on Wednesday, 12 September.

“Officers, the London Ambulance Service and the London Fire Brigade attended.

“The package is in the process of being assessed.

“Enquiries continue.”

Update (September 13th): A Met Police spokesperson confirmed that the incident was stood down at 13:06 after assessing the package.

They said: “At 13:06hrs the incident was deemed non-suspicious and the incident was stood down.”
