Southwark’s three MPs confirm they and their teams are all safe – Westminster terror attack

Bermondsey MP Neil Coyle has confirmed MPs are in lockdown in Parliament and that he and his staff are safe.

Police have confirmed that a terrorist attack took place at about 2.45pm outside the Houses of Parliament.

Neil told the News: “I was on my way to vote in the Commons chamber when we heard what had happened.

“MPs were locked in the Commons chamber, but we have now moved to the Members’ Lobby. Members of public and staff have been moved to the Control Lobby.

“The police always do a fantastic job, but they have been really tested today.”

“There are lots of members of the public here and MPs.

“Police are doing a full sweep of Parliament.”

Laura Hutchinson, assistant to Bermondsey and Old Southwark MP Neil Coyle, said: “We have been evacuated to the Norman Shaw North building, near Portcullis House, and we have been told to stay.

“We were locked in our office for an hour, then we were moved here half an hour ago.

“Everything seems to be okay, but we don’t really knows what’s going on. There’s no TV, so we are all just seeing numerous reports on Twitter.

“There are police present around now. No one is entering or leaving the building.

“I could do with a gin and tonic, it’s all very stressful, but we’re okay.”

Camberwell and Peckham MP Harriet Harman, and Dulwich and West Norwood MP Helen Hayes have both updated via Twitter.
