Bermondsey DJ helped keep 80 revelers calm in bar whilst terror unfolded up the road

A Bermondsey DJ has told the News how he helped keep a bar full of 80 revellers calm while the terror attack unfolded just up the road.

Grange Road resident Lee Speirs was playing music at The Old School Yard in Long Lane at the time of the attack.

“We had a load of people in the basement who had no idea, while people upstairs were just getting news of it [the attack],” Lee said.

“We locked the door and decided we should carry on as normal. We thought it would be best to keep the music going and keep people happy.”

Lee’s wife Bee Speirs – who spoke to the News as she visited Borough High Street to lay flowers – said they also took friends home who were stranded. She said: “I took a few friends home and we had them stay at ours because there was a 45 minute wait for Ubers and taxis.

“We didn’t get much sleep. We stayed up watching it on the news.”
