BBC documentary on Rhyhiem Barton’s murder to be broadcast tonight

BBC’s Panorama is airing a special episode tonight on the grief and trauma experienced by Rhyhiem Ainsworth Barton’s family after he was shot dead on Camberwell’s Brandon Estate in May this year.

The half hour programme – Murder on the Streets – will air tonight at 8.30pm on BBC one.

According to information released by the broadcaster, it will focus on Rhyhiem’s story to shed light on the rise in violent crime in London.

According to the programme makers there have been over 80 murders in London in 2018 alone,  including eight children under eighteen.

Seventeen-year-old Rhyhiem Ainsworth Barton was found suffering from a gunshot injury on Warham Street on Sunday, May 5, after police were alerted to reports of shots fired on nearby Cooks Road.

Medics gave him first aid at the scene, but he was pronounced dead at 6.56 pm.

It was later revealed that the teenager was a member of a drill rap group known as Moscow 17 believed to be in the midst of a  feud with Peckham-based group Zone 2.

On August 1, Sidique Kamara was found stabbed on the same road where Rhyhiem Barton was found – Warham Street.

The 23-year-old Moscow 17 member, who rapped under the names Incognito and SK, died at the scene.

In information released on its website, the BBC said :”Panorama investigates why young people are losing their lives, by focusing on just one of these murders.

Seventeen-year-old Rhyhiem Barton grew up on the Brandon Estate in south London, and was killed on the streets there.

“Filming with his family and friends, the programme looks at the devastation and loss caused by Rhyhiem’s death- from their perspective.

“It explores what might have led to his murder and how the community has responded to try and prevent more of their children being killed.”
