Appeal for witnesses after rough sleepers were ‘set alight in Croydon in sick attack’

Police are still appealing for witnesses after they say rough sleepers have been targeted in a sick arson attack in Croydon.

Two men were treated for burns by paramedics in George Street and Surrey Street in the early hours of Monday, June 10.

They were injured after their sleeping bags or other property were set alight.

Detectives investigating the attack say they believe other homeless people may have been targeted.

Two people have been arrested in connection with the incidents so far, but police are appealing for anyone with information or witnesses to come forward.

A 22-year-old man was charged and will appear in court last Thursday, June 13.

A seventeen-year-old girl was bailed until a date in July, pending further enquiries.

Anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
