Councillor applies pressure as scores of homes left with poor water supply

A councillor has turned up the pressure on Thames Water, by slamming wide-ranging problems with water pressure in buildings north of Jamaica Road.

Poor pressure is currently affecting homes and workplaces in the area between Tower Bridge Road and Cherry Garden Street – especially on the higher blocks of high-rise buildings.

Problems have been specifically reported at Wrayburn House, Providence Square, Springall’s Wharf, Cinnamon Wharf, Curlew Street, Tower Bridge Road, Eagle Wharf and St. Saviour’s Wharf – an area housing hundreds of residents.

Riverside Lib Dem councillor Hamish McCallum said: “It’s not right that so many residents and businesses are suffering from low water pressure in our area. There is talk that the pressure has been lowered to reduce leaks.

“Everyone has to pay their water rates and it shouldn’t be like a lottery, depending on which floor you live or work on.”

Thames Water met with Cllr McCallum and council representatives on Tuesday and promised to work towards resolving the problem.

A spokesperson for Thames Water said: “This morning’s meeting was very constructive and we’re working with the council to fix the issues. We’ve already installed a number of boosters and will continue to investigate any concerns on an individual basis to improve service.”
