Team effort from Invisible Palace, Paxton Green Time Bank and Eastern Cuisine

Crystal Palace charity Invisible Palace has linked up with Paxton Green Time Bank and award-winning Gipsy Hill restaurant and takeaway, Eastern Cuisine, to provide over 60 meals a week to members of the community who are either isolating due to age or health, or experiencing food poverty.

One older recipient told the charity her weekly food parcel and hot meal made her feel ‘almost as if she were back in the real world’.  Another, who had never had a takeaway meal before, was brought to tears by the gesture.

On Thursday, May 14, Dulwich and West Norwood MP Helen Hayes, and councillor Andy Simmons joined the volunteers to help deliver meals to the Kingswood Estate.

Sharif Ahmed, from Eastern Cuisine, said  “Cooking hot and tasty meals for people who are finding these times particularly challenging is very important to us.

“When it is safe and allowed our doors will open to invite volunteers from the two partner organisations to come and dine together and celebrate the work they have done”.

Eastern Cuisine has sponsored several community groups and charities over recent years including Crystal Palace Subway, Link Age Southwark, Friends of Gipsy Hill and the restaurant’s partner on this initiative Invisible Palace.

For the last four years the restaurant has held a festive buffet for 50 people through Link Age Southwark.

Eastern Cuisine is now also providing free daily meals for residents aged 70 and above in the surrounding streets.
