Cancer survivor to host Bermondsey fundraiser for Macmillan

A cancer survivor will host a special fundraiser in Bermondsey next week as part of Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning, which will see events take place across the country.

The charity morning will take place at Wade Hall on the Dickens Estate on September 25, with a whole host of treats on offer for generous visitors.

Sheila Woolgar, who had breast cancer but was given the all-clear two years ago, told the News that she was organising the event to “give back.”

She said: “I was one of the lucky ones. It’s my way to give back to the charity.

“If I was twenty or thirty years younger I would volunteer and do all sorts, but I can’t.

“I also had two friends pass away from cancer this year, so I’ll be doing this in memory of Cathy Norton and Johnny Webb. It’s awful, there aren’t many families out there who haven’t been affected by cancer.”

The fundraiser, which will involve raffles, a jumble sale, goodies and refreshments, will begin at 11am and finish at 2pm.

Entrance will cost £2. If you can’t make it on the day but would still like to contribute to Macmillan cancer support charity, visit
