Meet the country’s first ‘milk sommelier’


The country’s first milk sommelier will host an exclusive event at Borough Market to help lovers of the white stuff find their perfect match.

Graham’s The Family Dairy appointed Doug Wood to help milk lovers discover the hidden depths of their favourite ‘house white’.

The sommelier explores the flavours that can be tasted – but are often overlooked – in the everyday tipple, from white chocolate and panna cotta in Organic Whole Milk with Cream at the Top, to the bready notes, vanilla and toasted nut flavours that can be found in Graham’s Gold Smooth.

Bedales of Borough  Market will put on five courses of food – from Longhorn beef tartare, to freshly-baked chocolate and almond biscotti – will be paired with a fine selection of fresh Graham’s milk at the tasting event.

“The UK has never had its own milk sommelier before – but given the quality of our home-grown milk, it’s long overdue,” said Carol Graham, marketing director of Graham’s The Family Dairy.

“This is the first time in London that people will have had the opportunity to sit down with Doug and enjoy milk in a different way. It’ll be lots of fun.”

Doug added: “My day to day is discovering new flavours in alcohol, so this has been an unusual challenge.

“But once the tastes and aromas started coming through, it really opened my eyes to how complex a humble glass of milk could be.

“I’m delighted to share my tips and tricks with Graham’s customers to get the most from their milk.”

Bedales of Borough Market will host the event on Wednesday, September 6, from 6-8pm.
