Millwall hosting first-ever ‘community day’ on Saturday – and here’s how you can get involved

Millwall will host its first-ever community day this Saturday when Norwich City visit The Den.

The day will see the club show case the work of its Community Trust through a packed day of events and activities – including a family fun zone and a foodbank donations drive.

The Trust’s post-16 education course will be holding a bucket collection and giving away wristbands while the Lions Centre’s 3G pitch will host two matches, one of them between Millwall’s and Norwich’s Down’s Syndrome teams.

Also featured will be a family fun zone with bouncy castle, badge-making and pool football, from 12.30-2pm, in the Lions Centre’s Sports Hall.

Sean Daly, the Trust’s Football Development Manager, said: “We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to all who support the Trust, from players and club staff to fans, partners and the local community.

“As a self-financing charity, events like Community Day are so important in allowing us to continue our work in the local community, so please come and join in the celebrations.”

Millwall-mad youngsters Harvey Brown and Ellice Bar – two names familiar to fellow Millwall supporters and News readers – have been invited as special mascots, while all ball girls for the game will be from the RTC U16s group.

Elsewhere there will be an inflatable penalty shootout next to SE16 Bar, said the Trust, while Community Trust staff and Post-16 students will also be present to inform fans of different courses and programmes.

The day will also see a relaunching of Millwall’s partnership with the Southwark Foodbank, and donations can be left at the Millwall Supporters’ Club marquee.

Staff and volunteers from the ‘Back the Bakerloo’ line extension campaign will also be present.
