Circus show is worth the WEIGHT

Over 3,000 people watched in awe last weekend as an integrated circus put on three spectacular shows at Dulwich Park.

Boasting a blind acrobat, deaf choir singers and other inspiring performers, Weighting aimed to ‘celebrate every body, disabled or not.’

The show was organised by Extraordinary Bodies, whose producer, Vashti Waite, said: “It has been an incredible journey working with an integrated cast to showcase and develop the performers’ individual skills whether they are disabled or non-disabled.

“We have had some inspiring feedback from the glorious audience that came to see Weighting in Dulwich and our proud to provide a platform to create circus for every body.”

The show’s finale included a song performed by a 100-strong choir, made up of local residents who will go on tour with the circus to perform at the Liberty Festival in the Olympic Stadium next month.

Acrobat Karina Jones said: “Circus is risky enough without a blind aerialist, but Weighting has enabled me to develop and flourish as a performer.”

The shows were funded by Southwark Council and supported using funding from the National Lottery through Arts Council England and The Clore Duffield Foundation.
