Enjoy A Moment With Rafael Klein

Nunhead artist Rafael Klein often exhibits his art internationally, but his next show, Moment to Moment, will be in the capital.

He says, ‘My work, whether painting, sculpture or artists’ book, has always explored the Poetry of Place. In other words, the way we impose our own personal narrative on the world we inhabit.’
Moment to Moment is an exhibition of 100 sculptures telling the life story of an Everyman. It is the road we travel along in our lives that forms the sense of place.
The works are displayed along one long spiralling ribbon of steel, forming the metaphor of a ‘road of life’.
The 100 sculptures are in bronze, steel and copper. They almost seem like a series of still from an animated film.
The visitor sympathetically follows our hero’s journey along this metaphoric road: ‘All of the phases of life are explored: The exuberance of childhood – from the first bicycle, discovering the natural world by climbing trees, though adulthood – friendship, marriage, family and children, the distractions of travel, weather, home, car, and daily life, and finally to maturity and age, where our hero rises above everyday life and unites with the spiritual.’
Moment to Moment has toured to St. Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh, Scotland, as well as to public venues in Lecce and Savona Italy.
This is the first time this extraordinary ambitious installation will be seen in London
Moment to Moment occupies Zari’s main ground floor gallery. On the lower ground floor, will be a complete survey of Klein’s artists’ books. The space will be turned into a reading room where people can explore the books.
From Florida, Klein’s first artists’ book which examines a mythic tourist wonderland, through to A Wanderer, about Jews hiding in attics, forests, underground and even in trees during the Holocaust. These Holocaust Landscapes are also the invention of man’s dystopian imagination.
Klein’s books are in the Museum of Modern Art in NY, the Tate, the Brooklyn Museum, and many other prestigious collections.
Klein has given readings of his books accompanied by short films at such venues as the British LIbrary, and the Scuola Grafica Inernazionale in Venice.
