Police appeal for help after south-east London knife assault

Police are calling for help after a man was assaulted in south-east London in January.

The 51-year-old man showed up at hospital with a number of injuries, including several cuts, at nearly 1am on Friday, January 14.

The victim told police that he had been punched by an attacker in Rushey Green in Lewisham. The attacker, whom he said he knew, hit him while he was withdrawing money from a cash machine. The suspect left but came back a short while later carrying a bladed weapon which he attacked the victim with again.

A 42-year-old man was arrested the next day and has been released pending further investigation.

Detective Constable Alan Jones, from the South East BCU, which covers Lewisham, said: “This was an unprovoked attack on a man in the street. Whilst we have made an arrest, I still need to speak with anyone who saw the assault. The victim has told us that there were other people in the area at the time, and I need them to come forward and tell me what they saw.”
