Letter: Labour back both Bakerloo Line extension routes

Following recent letters about the Bakerloo line extension, I would like to clarify that Southwark Labour has a very clear position to back both extension routes – via Camberwell and Peckham and the Old Kent Road.

Southwark Labour has long been campaigning for the Bakerloo extension – it was the Leader of the Council who first got a commitment from the Mayor of London to get the extension and we’ve been working with the Mayor for the last two years to turn our aspiration into a reality. We are clear about the need for a two-branch route, to serve Camberwell and Peckham and the Old Kent Road, both of which are currently under-served by public transport.

The recent consultation on the Bakerloo line extension showed clearly that it is a key priority for our residents. The community have been fantastic in campaigning passionately for both routes and we will continue to push for a two-branch extension to serve existing residents, support new development and bring much-needed investment to both areas.
